Before I started my study at Imperial College, I had got a letter that Professor Susan Gourvenec wrote to me. She can accept me as her student and can give me a scholarship. This surprised me as I had not contacted her before. Later, I knew that Professor Guy Houlsby is the one who had written to both Professor Susan Gourvenec and Professor David White to find an opportunity for me to pursue my research career. Today (21st November 2019) it is the time for me to say: “Thank you and congratulations to Both Professors, Professor Susan Gourvenec and Professor David White”.

In my third year of PhD, I had a special chance to attend an event that the British Council organised in the houses of parliament where I met many Newton scholars. At this special occasion, Professor Lord Robert Mair (The president of the Institution of Civil Engineers) shared his view of the role of engineering science, especially civil engineering which inspires me so much. Here are two short papers that I wrote for the conference at Churchill Cambridge 2020 (https://www.is-cambridge2020.eng.cam.ac.uk) which Professor Lord Robert Mair is the chair.
